Autumn’s Return to Balance
Datu’s Ayurveda Retreat

This autumn we offer deep rest and inner rebalancing to softly return the body to its own intelligence. Join us at our 17th-century palazzo overlooking the Amalfi Coast, where the calm of the sea meets the principles of authentic Eastern wellbeing. Here, time moves at a quieter pace, allowing space for a restorative and deeply regenerative experience.

About this Retreat

There are places that feel held outside of time, where silence lingers a little longer under a sky that does not hurry. Over the years Datu has come to recognise such places as quiet collaborators, where the architecture and landscape are not separate from the practice of presence, but part of its fabric. With each retreat, a certain sensibility has emerged; a preference for places that speak softly, that wait, that know the language of stillness.

Here, we arrive at a 17th-century Palazzo, a residence overlooking the Amalfi Coast. Framed by lush gardens that open to the horizon and shaped by sea air and sunlight, it is a place that seems to watch more than it reveals. Mornings drift in with the scent of salt and citrus; evenings soften into the hush of the tide. Nothing insists and nothing distracts. There is simply the feeling of a place that has endured, that understands the elegance of restraint.

It is here that Datu will host its next retreat. Rooted in the enduring tradition of Ayurveda and the contemplative disciplines of the East, the week unfolds as a return to a way of knowing, of attending that has outlasted centuries.

What to Expect

Authenticity, integrity and individualised care

The week is about shedding distractions until the essential surfaces. Drawing on classical traditions of Ayurveda, each element of the retreat is designed to support deep rest and inner rebalancing. Guests receive individual consultations with seasoned Vaidyas, followed by personalised treatments: from oil-based therapies, TCM, to subtle bodywork and breath-led practices. The intention is restoration: to gently return the body to its own intelligence.

Daily schedules follow a nourishing cadence, balancing structure with spaciousness. Therapeutic sessions are complemented by Yoga Sadhana, art-based therapies and moments of quiet integration. Whether gathered around a morning fire ritual or resting in stillness within the estate’s lush gardens, guests are encouraged to engage through receptivity rather than effort. The teachings and learnings emerge in conversation, in presence. Not always directly. Not always comfortably. But with a kindness and steadiness that allows what is often hidden to gently surface.

The practitioners are not personalities at the centre of things. They are companions in the work of tending, their knowledge offered patiently. Their attention is precise rather than performative.

Retreats are intentionally limited in size so that care remains personal rather than standardised. Smaller groups allow practitioners to work closely with each guest and preserve the sense of attentiveness that is central to the retreat.

Meals, prepared with care, are based on Ayurvedic dietary principles but shaped by local abundance — light, clean and seasonal. Each dish supports the healing process, but also honours pleasure and connection: food not just as fuel, but as ritual.

This is not a wellness retreat in the modern sense. It is an invitation into a slower way of being — one that honours tradition, fosters clarity and creates space for the kind of sustained healing that does not announce itself, but unfolds quietly from within.

This season we welcome Tulku Lobsang Rinpoche to Datu, a teacher whose presence carries the authority of lived lineage and the warmth of direct human connection.

Tulku Lobsang is a renowned Tibetan Buddhist master, scholar of Tibetan medicine and lineage holder of powerful yogic and meditative practices. Trained from a young age within the monasteries of Tibet and India, his path has been shaped by Dzogchen, Tantric Buddhism and the embodied sciences of breath and energy. His teaching is marked by clarity, humour and an uncommon ability to translate subtle inner practices into experiences that are tangible and transformative.

Over the course of this special visit, Tulku Lobsang will offer two distinct practices:
Tummo Fire Breathing

This session will begin with a concise introduction to Tummo, an inner heat practice from the Tibetan yogic tradition (popularised in the West by Wim Hoff), before moving into visualisation, breath techniques and movement. When practiced regularly, the Tummo fire blazes through the energetic channels, melting away the subtlest blockages and surging energy throughout the body, awakening inner warmth, vitality and a deep sense of internal stability.

Dzogchen Meditation
In the Dzogchen session, Tulku Lobsang will guide participants into a direct experience of  mind’s natural state. This practice is without techniques and without concepts. The mind is like water. When it is still, it naturally becomes clear. When we leave everything alone, without judgment or reaction and simply perceive what is there, we begin to recognise the nature of mind. In this way, we use our mind to observe our mind. This is how we come to deeply know ourselves.

We are honoured to host Tulku Lobsang at Datu and to share these teachings with you from the 17th until the 20th of November.
